The summer camping season is here and it’s time to take your RV out and prepare it for new adventures. Preparing your RV for the summer may seem like a real quest, especially when it comes to organizing the checkup process. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of 8 steps that will help you get your RV ready in no time.
Inspect the Exterior and Check the Tires
First, you should inspect your RV’s exterior and check for cracks or damaged parts around the vents and seals. You should also check the slide-out sals to make sure they are in good condition and work properly.
Then, check the tires for any damages and their pressure. Clean and grease the bearings, tighten the lug nuts, and inflate the tires to the proper amount.
Clean the Water System
Since you’ve used an RV antifreeze to prevent the water system from freezing during the cold winter days, you need to flush and clean it. First, turn on the water to flush out the system until the water becomes clear. Then, mix a cup of bleach with a gallon of water, pour it into the empty water tank, and flush again. Fill and flush out the water system again the next day to ensure there’re no bleach residues in the tank and the pipes.
Once done with that, turn on the heater’s bypass and check the pipes for leaks. If needed, replace the damaged/leaking pipes with new ones.
Plug Your RV into an Electric Power Source
With the water system, including the water heater, all cleaned out and full, plug your RV into a power source. Turn on the fridge and any other electricity-powered appliance to check if they work properly.
Check the Batteries
Unplug your RV from the power source and check the batteries. Check their connections to see if they are clean and if there’s any corrosion. Also, check all sides of the batteries for damages and cracks. If there’s any damage, replace them with new ones. Then, check the batteries’ fluid levels and use distilled water to fill them if needed.
Check the Gas Tanks and Test All Gas Appliances
Next, you need to check the gas tanks and see if the gas appliances are working properly. To do that, turn off the tanks and check for any damage to their hoses, valves, and regulators. If needed, replace them with new ones to make sure the tanks are working properly.
Once done with that, turn on the gas tanks and test all gas appliances, including the stove, water heater, furnace, and fridge.
Thoroughly Clean Your RV and Let It Air Out
Once you’re done with all the technical stuff, proceed to clean your RV. Vacuum and thoroughly clean all surfaces inside the RV. Then, wash the exterior and wax it if needed. When you’re done with all the cleaning, open the windows and the door and let the RV air out.
You Are All Done!
When you’re done with all the steps, stock up your RV with all essentials you need on the road. Stock it with fresh food, towels, toilet paper, clothes, a picnic set, and everything you’ll use during the trip. Then, get on and bon voyage!
