RV Storage Hacks: How to Add More Storage Space to Your RV?
April 13, 2024

Whether you’re an occasional RV traveler or live in your RV, having enough storage space for all your belongings and other items is a must. However, it seems that we always need an additional storage space to fit our things.

While extending your RV is impossible, adding more storage space is. Here are 5 space-saving RV hacks and solutions to add that extra storage space you need.

1.   Use Organizers for Everything

Organizers are the smartest space-saving solution for RVs since they keep all things organized. Therefore, you can use a hanging closet organizer with side pockets for storing your clothes and personal belongings. You can also use a hanging shower pocket organizer for your toiletries, a vertical shoe organizer for your shoes, and a bedside caddy-style organizer instead of a nightstand.

2.   Use Multipurpose Storage Units

Multipurpose storage units will make your RV life much easier since they can be used for storing anything that fits in them. For instance, Mason jars can be used for storing food leftovers, drinking cups, small utensils, spices, food like rice, beans, nuts, and dried fruit, and even small toys.

Also, you can use a roll-up dish rack as a classic dish rack, a drying rack for fruits and veggies, and a place for hot pots. Plus, you can repurpose vertical shelves for whatever you need.

3.   Built-in Everything You Can

RVs are all about built-in furniture because it saves a lot of space and uses every inch of the space available. That’s why you should built-in everything you can, not just furniture.

Mount the TV on a wall or a closet door, install drawers under the table, bed, and sofas, mount storage cabinets on the top of every wall, and install slide-out surfaces (e.g. a cutting board and a dining table). And, don’t forget to mount shelves wherever possible so that you can use them for storing different items, from spices and cups to toiletries and books.

4.   Make the Most of Vertical Space

Your RV may not have a big surface, but it has plenty of vertical space you can use. You can use this space by adding hanging organizers, shelves, wall-mounted cabinets, stacking drawers, and a hanging trash can behind the cabinet door under the kitchen sink. You can also hang a produce hammock for storing fruits and veggies and mount hooks by the front door to hang your keys.

5.   Choose Foldable and Stackable Items

When choosing items for your RV, make sure you always choose their foldable or stackable models. For instance, when choosing pots and pans, go for nesting ones as they stack one into another. Also, you can use a pop-up laundry hamper for clothes and have another one to use as a trash can by adding a trash bag inside of it.

Final Words

RVs have limited storage space but that doesn’t mean you have to travel/live without the storage space you need. There are many ways to add more storage space to your RV without breaking your bank. Plan in advance how much additional space you need and consider the space available in your RV before you start adding any storage solution.
